Introduction
Masjid Sultan Abdullah, constructed in 1932 during the reign of Tengku Abu Bakar, holds a significant place in Pahang's cultural and religious heritage. As part of the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) initiative spearheaded by Malaysia's 5th Prime Minister, Tun Abdullah Badawi, the mosque underwent a comprehensive restoration project to be repurposed as an Islamic Museum. Unity Repair was proud to be a part of this project, entrusted with the crucial task of waterproofing the structure.
The original white paint scheme of the mosque, reflecting its architectural heritage, needed to be preserved during the restoration. This presented a unique challenge: sourcing a suitable waterproofing solution in a specific white color, which fell below the standard minimum order quantity (MOQ) typically required by suppliers.
Project Scope
Unity Repair's expertise encompassed several key areas:
Ultra-Fast Curing Polyurea Waterproofing
Employing a specialized Polyurea system. The team waterproofed the structure while maintaining the desired white aesthetic. This high-performance solution offered rapid curing times and excellent adhesion properties, ensuring efficient project execution.
Concrete Repair
Addressing existing concrete deterioration through various methods, including formwork pressure grouting, hand patching, and epoxy injection for crack repair. These techniques restored the structural integrity and aesthetic appeal of the concrete elements.
Challenges and Solutions
A significant challenge involved educating the main contractor and construction team on best practices for repair work, particularly for specialized tasks. The involvement of CIDB's QLASSIC program played a crucial role in promoting quality standards and meticulous execution of repair procedures.
Project Outcomes
The project yielded several positive outcomes:
- Waterproofing Success: The application of the white-colored Polyurea system effectively addressed water ingress concerns, ensuring long-term protection for the restored structure.
- Visual Transformation: The restored white exterior, gleaming under the sun, reflects the historical essence of the Masjid and creates a visually striking landmark.
- Efficiency and Continuity: Rapid curing times of the Polyurea system minimized project downtime, allowing other trades like finishing, HVAC, and lighting to proceed efficiently.

Conclusion
The successful restoration of Masjid Sultan Abdullah stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders. Unity Repair's commitment to innovative solutions and quality workmanship played a vital role in preserving this cultural treasure for future generations.
